Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on blue coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Don Blackman's self-titled debut album, released in 1982, is a funk and jazz-fusion masterpiece that has gained a cult following over the years. As a talented keyboardist, vocalist, and composer, Blackman was already well-regarded in the music scene for his work with artists like Parliament-Funkadelic, Roy Ayers, and Weldon Irvine. His debut album showcases his unique blend of smooth jazz, funk, and R&B, highlighted by tracks like "Yabba Dabba Doo," "Heart's Desire," and "Holding You, Loving You," which became underground hits. The album is praised for it's sophisticated musicianship, catchy grooves, and heartfelt lyrics. Although it didn't achieve major commercial success upon release, it has since been revered by collectors and musicians, influencing genres like hip-hop and neo-soul, with many of it's tracks sampled by prominent artists. Don Blackman's debut remains a hidden gem of 1980s music.
